A 15-year-old girl who is currently receiving psychiatric care at Mount Carmel Hospital was this morning pleaded guilty to making more than 300 illegal calls to the 112 emergency line and threatening officers.

Prosecutor, inspector Mario Tonna told the court that the girl was being kept in an adult ward where she was being insulted and threatened by other residents.

He called for her to be moved to the children’s ward.

Defence lawyer Franco Galea asked Magistrate Gabriella Vella to take into consideration that this was not a normal case and that the girl needed help.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella placed the girl under probation for three years and said that, as by law she could not order, she was recommending the Mount Carmel management to immediately transfer the girl to the children’s ward.

Another two children, one aged 10 and another aged 12, were charged of similar crimes at the Juvenile Court.

One was put on probation for a year while the other case is in process. The prosecution in the latter two cases was led by Inspector Sandro Camilleri.
