Upon reading an article about the enforcement of the water reservoir laws for new building in Malta, the question that came to mind was: what about those that got away with it? What about the ones that opted for that extra garage instead of investing in a much needed and important water reservoir. Will these people be fined, prosecuted or forced to seek some remedy to rectify their wrongdoings?

Some legal action must be taken to make people abide by the law and stop this incessant mentality where profits seem to blind the developers from seeing the bigger picture.

The bigger picture being that we live on a tiny stretch of land surrounded by water unfit to drink and that any action to jeopardise the state of such basic and essential resource should be frowned upon and avoided.

These people, by ignoring the duty to ensure the maintainance of fresh water, have committed a crime indirectly against every single person on this island by opting for those extra couple of thousand euros instead of maintaining the delicate balance that makes life possible on this island.

It is not hard for the powers that be to check who has observed the law and who has not.

The ones who are found to be guilty of not abiding by the law should be made to pay for their actions. I suggest the price should be on the same levels as the profits (from building that extra garage) they opted to make by ignoring their duty to build a water reservoir.
