Cruise passenger visitors dropped by 7.6 per cent in July and the decline in expected to persist during this month and September, mostly because a major cruise line changed its Mediterranean itinerary, Viset said today.

It said that 24 cruise ships called in Grand Harbour last month. They carried 48,731 passengers or 7.6% less than the total for July 2009 (52,739).

Viset said that passenger volumes are expected to recover during the last quarter of this year and 2010 is projected to see an overall increase of 10 % in passenger movements over 2009.

The number of passengers who called in Malta since January stands at 246,883 compared to 85,193 passengers registered during the first seven months of 2009. This represents an increase of 33.3% to date.
