The number of candidates who passed their Junior Lyceum entrance examination has gone up to 71 per cent following the resits.

The government said that this was the last time that this examination was held since a national examination as proposed in the reform of the migration from primary to secondary will start being implemented as from the next scholastic yea.

The government said that the resits for entry into Form 1 for those students who had failed in one examination during the May sittings was held on July 30 and out of the 339 students eligible – 138 in mathematics and 201 in English, seven were absent for mathematics and five were absent for English.

35 of those who sat for the mathematics examination and 79 of those who sat for English obtained a pass mark bringing up the pass rate of the resits to 33.6 per cent.

In all, 2,122 students were successful in the JL entrance examination, a 3.8 per cent increase on the May pass rate of 67.2 per cent.
