It was yet another magnificent evening thanks to the Santa Maria Band Club of Għaxaq and it is extremely difficult to find the right superlatives to explain the quality of concerts being organised by this relatively small village in Malta.
Having been witness to last year’s concert by the Queen Tribute Band, I was looking forward to the Abba UK Tribute band. What a feast of musical enjoyment it turned out to be; there was very strong competition from Joe Brown’s band and the local singers. I think there was enough talent to have the performers on separate nights in their own right.
As it happened, together with my wife I took some Swedish friends who are in the music business and who in actual fact have had some close contact with the original Abba. A compliment was paid to the tribute band in no uncertain terms: “They were good.”
The very large assembeled crowd just went into frenzy from start to finish. The organisation was first class and a credit to all those involved.
I do not know what the band club have in mind for next year but they are certainly making it difficult for themselves to improve on this year’s performances. Thank you Santa Maria Band Club for yet another unforgettable concert, and again for your admirable gesture of supporting Puttinu Cares.
