People in glass houses…

I was mildly surprised by the shocked tones adopted in the leader Bland Reaction To BP’s Oil drilling In Med (August 10).

In that editorial the government was accused of making too bland a statement in its reaction to plans by Libya and BP to drill for oil in the Gulf of Sirte.

While acknowledging the editorial’s concern about the dangers of a repetition of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster, I do not recall a similar concern being expressed when Malta was doing its utmost to “dig for oil” in areas in the very centre of the Mediterranean; nor do I recollect similar qualms expressed by countries to our north, south, east and west.
