Investigations under way at the Fexco exchange bureau on Sunday.

Keith Galea, 30 of Sta Venera, this afternoon pleaded not guilty to stealing more than €20,000 in cash of different currencies from a Fexco exchange bureau in Paceville during a daring hold-up last Sunday morning.

He also pleaded not guilty to holding Josef Aquilina against his will, being in possession of a weapon without a licence, firing a weapon in an inhabited area, stealing a car and relapsing.

Mr Galea was remanded in custody.

Four armed and hooded men took part in the daring robbery shortly after the exchange opposite Bay Street opened at 9 a.m.

One of the robbers tied up the salesman after he was handed the cash. Two shots were fired at a show-window to discourage clients from entering. No one was injured.

Some cash was left in the road as the robbers made their getaway in a waiting car.

The car was found by the police in the Swieqi-San Ġwann area soon after the incident.

Agree 100%!! Well said! Sentences handed out by our Courts 1) are laughing stock for all the World to read 2) are ruining our society by creating a sense of impunity among the rotten part of our population.

So, in about 10 years time he might get a pat on the arm instead.

Maybe if he is on drugs, he can try rehabilitation, and if he manages to kick the dragon, after some time, he will be hailed as a hero who overcame his bad habit, graduate and given a certificate, patted on the shoulder, and make the headlines on our Sunday tv news. And later on, who knows, if he succumbs again to the itch, he can do as you are saying!!!

Hey we are proud of our human rights records. We are proud of our rule of law. We are proud of our Police force, and we our proud of our Courts of Law. We are also proud of Caritas and its rehabilitation programmes. So please lets be fair and considerate,

Well said J Oatman. Him being Maltese, a suspended jail sentence will do fine. But if he were a foreign national, then the law would come down with all its force on him and he would maybe get a 6 year jail term, unsuspended of course.
Antoine Attard, I hope your comment was meant to be sarcastic. If not:
We are proud, we are proud, we are proud . . . . YOU maybe are proud, but please don't tell me what I am. So you're proud with our rule of law? With our Courts of Law? Really? heh....
Are you proud for example that the (alleged) hit-and-run road killer of cyclist Clifford Micallef has not yet been given the due court prison sentence after more than a year of his death and his family's suffering? That's one good example not to be proud, my friend. and there are hundreds of them.... "be fair and considerate" .... LOL but you must be joking.
