Lovely locations can still lead holidaymakers to long for home, according to a survey. Asked to describe their dream holiday, most Britons settled for a hot, villa-accommodation spot close to a tropical beach.

But most reckoned three weeks in paradise would be enough as they would then start getting homesick, the survey of 1,826 people by travel agent www.sunshine.co.uk found.

Those polled said their optimum temperature for a dream holiday would be 28˚C (82F), with most settling for a private villa.

As many as 67 per cent agreed three weeks would be ideal for their trip and 59 per cent wanted to be within 100 metres of a beach.

Most reckoned £1,000 would be a perfect amount for spending money and nearly all wanted their trip to be on an all-inclusive basis, although 76 per cent fancied eating out every evening.

The most popular destination for a dream trip was the Seychelles.

Chris Brown, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, said: “I was surprised three weeks was considered a perfect holiday for the majority, as I really thought it would be longer.

“But we found that 41 per cent thought they would miss home by the fourth week.”
