Obituary
CARUANA. On August 8, at Mater Dei Hospital, DORIS née Byers, of Żebbuġ, aged 57, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Alfred, her children Mary Anne, Philip, Kristina and her fiancé Jonathan, Ronald and Lena, her grandchildren Aiden and Damian, her parents Charles and Carmen, her siblings Vince and Rita and their families, her in-laws and their families, uncles and aunts, including Sr Adelgiza Byers of the Dominican Order, many other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 3 p.m. for St Philip parish chuch, Żebbuġ, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Żebbuġ. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors, while thanking the doctors and staff of the Neuro Medical Unit Ward at Mater Dei Hospital for their dedication and care. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
MERCIECA. on August 8, Joseph, of Żebbuġ (director of Pace & Mercieca Ltd), aged 85. He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife Jinny nèe Borg, his children Charles and his wife Anna, Josephine and her husband Notary Lino Martinelli, Alexander and his wife Emma, Victor; his daughter-in-law Doreen, widow of William Mercieca, his grandchildren Matthew, Peter, Anthony, Alessandra, Elaine, James, Bernardette, David, John and Philip, great grandchildren, in-laws, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated today at 2.30 p.m. at St Philip’s Parish Church, Żebbuġ, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated. May God grant him eternal rest.

Junior Song finalists chosen
Just over 20 songs from 54 entries have been chosen as finalists in this year’s Malta Junior Euro Song, the junior version of the Malta Song for Europe, Public Broadcasting Service said yesterday.
The winner will be representing Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Minsk, Belarus on November 20.
The song to represent Malta will be picked by a panel of six judges.
Comino Tower
Comino’s Santa Marija Tower will be closed for maintenance on its bridge from Wednesday to Friday, opening again on Saturday.
