A 15-year-old girl and her 16-year-old boyfriend were remanded in custody today after pleading not guilty to having last Wednesday morning stolen a wallet containing €400 from the girl's great-uncle.

The girl was also accused of relapsing.

Police Inspector Jason Agius that the uncle, who is 83 years old, had earlier on Wednesday gone to the bank with the teenagers to cash his pension cheque.

They stole his wallet while having a snack at McDonalds.

Legal aide Renzo Porsella Flores said his clients were insisting on their innocence and he was requesting bail.

Police Inspector Jason Agius said there were witnesses to testify and he objected to bail.

Magistrate Anthony Vella said he was remanding the two in custody because other witnesses still had to testify.
