Farsons Foundation chairman Bryan Gera and Multigas Ltd chairman Louis Farrugia recently presented €5,000 each to the fund supporting restoration works being carried out at St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Farsons Brewery’s old boardroom, was also attended by Mark Miceli Farrugia, a trustee of the Farsons Foundation and director of Multigas Ltd.
Ħamrun parish priest Fr Henry Balzan thanked the companies for their support.
The restoration project, under the patronage of President Emeritus Guido de Marco, will be safeguarding a masterpiece by Maltese artist Emvin Cremona (1919-1987).
After completing restoration works on the church ceiling, the parish was advised that restoration on the exterior of the dome must be carried out before the work on the interior could start. The quotation in connection to the restoration works was over €170,000, which exceeded the church’s budget allocated for this project.
In order to preserve Cremona’s work, Ħamrun parish invited private companies to aid St Cajetan church in its endeavours.
Both Farsons and Multigas have close historical ties with Ħamrun and recognised this initiative was not only of local importance but also in the national interest.
