Inter: Colombian striker David Ferreira scored on a penalty in the 75th minute to lift FC Dallas into a 2-2 draw with Inter on Thursday. Inter went 1-1-1 on the pre-season North American tour under new coach Rafael Benitez, beating England’s Manchester City 3-0 in Baltimore and losing 3-2 to Greek champion Panathinaikos at Toronto.

Lienen: German coach Ewald Lienen has been fired by Olympiakos, the day after the team’s shock Europa League exit. Olympiakos stuggled to a 2-1 home win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the first leg only to exit on the away goals rule after a 1-0 loss on Thursday in Israel. Lienen, 56, took over as coach in June on a two-year contract.

Degen: Liverpool right-back Philipp Degen has been loaned out to Stuttgart for the upcoming season. The 27-year-old Swiss international moved to Anfield on a free tran-sfer in 2008 from Borussia Dortmund.

Solskjaer: Manchester United reserve team coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at Fir Park on Thursday as reported Old Trafford target Anders Lindegaard faced Motherwell in the Europa League. The 26-year-old Aalesund goal-keeper suffered a miserable night, though, as his side lost 3-0 to crash out of the third qualifying round.

Charged: UEFA have charged Macedonian side FK Rabotnicki over allegations of racist chanting in last week’s Europa League qualifying game against Liverpool. Pictures emerged after the game that showed Rabotnicki fans appearing to direct ‘monkey’ taunts at Liverpool players.

Ayew: Marseille have agreed in principle a three-year contract extension with winger Andre Ayew. The 20-year-old impressed for Ghana at the World Cup in South Africa.

Cricket: The chief of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associa­tions called for the Umpire Decision Re­view System to be applied through­out all Test series. The referral system is being used in a Test series in Britain for the first time during the current four-match campaign between England and Pakistan. Under the review system each side is allowed two unsucc­essful challenges to on-field decisions per innings.

Golf: Tiger Woods carded his career worst score at Firestone, a shocking four-over-par 74 in the opening round at the Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday. Woods has dominated the World Golf Championships event, winning it seven times at Firestone Country Club, but he was completely off his game in ideal conditions.

Swimming: World 50m butterfly record holder Rafael Munoz will be able to compete at next week’s European Championships in Budapest after FINA accepted he was in “a vulnerable psychological condition” when he missed a doping test. The Spaniard missed three tests after the World Championships in Rome, grounds for a ban of between two months and two years under the WADA code.

Rugby Union: Former Wallaby winger Jeff McLean has died at the age of 63 after a prolonged battle with cancer. McLean was a member of one of Australia’s most distinguished rugby families, with a Wallaby pedigree stretching back to 1880. He played 13 Tests for Australia between 1971 and 1974, before a badly broken leg prematurely ended his career.
