The visible trade gap in June narrowed by €22.4 million to €70.6 million compared to the same period last year, according to recent figures issued by the statistics office.
Imports increased by €26.7 million as did exports by €49.1 million. More capital goods, industrial supplies, fuels and lubricants were imported, the National Statistics Office said.
However, more mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials were exported.
Between January and June, the visible trade gap narrowed by €242.3 million to €500.2 million.
The bulk of Malta’s trade flows and trade deficit was directed towards the EU – imports decreased from the Netherlands, the UK and Germany but increased from Italy, Spain, France and Belgium.
Exports increased to Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, China, Turkey and Switzerland.
