William Chetcuti had two oustanding scores of 49 in the opening stage of the ISSF World Championship Trap Shoot in Munich yesterday but he failed to extend his fine form into the third round where he only managed 46, a result that ultimately cost him a place in the barrage.

With an overall score of 144-150, Chetcuti finished tied for fifth place with five other shooters.

A shoot-off was required to determine the ones joining Russian Mosin Vasely, Joshua Richmond, of the US, Hungary’s Richard Bognar and Shih Wei Tin, of Tapei, in the final.

American Jeffrey Holguin and Hu Biuyand, of China, managed two pairs to qualify via the shoot-off, leaving Chetcuti, who managed three out of four clays, in eighth place from an entry of 59 shooters.

Mosin’s three rounds of triple 49 saw him matching the world record mark in qualifying. However, the Russian was unable to win the title that went to Richmond who hit a 50-straight to finish with 196 points. Mosin was the runner-up on 193 points. He won a shoot-off with Binyuan on the 30th clay.
