Kavallieri Megaman Cisk Excel RFC have just held their annual general meeting at the clubhouse in Ħamrun.

During the meet, team manager David Borg and coach Patrizio Allegrucci presented the club’s policy for season 2010/2011, with the aim of setting a higher standard and winning trophies for the club in different categories.

The announcement that the club became the first to appoint its own Director of Rugby is a major factor and former English Premier League player and coach Mat Emmerson is bound to have a big influence on the local rugby scene.

Besides playing at top level, Emmerson has coached at high level in England, France and Canada.

In a brief introduction, he emphasised that the youth are the lifeblood of the game. He said women’s rugby is crucial and that the off-field social aspect were also key behind a healthier environment in the sport.

As a sportsman himself, Emmerson emphasised the importance of consistent training and team dedication.

The club is adopting a tightly-run business planning system as advised by the MRFU, aiming to expand membership and attract more people to the sport.

Online merchandise sales will be launched.

Under the guidance of Joe Cutajar, the youth section has already produced 15 players for the senior squad next season.

The nursery will continue its work within schools.

The women’s team, guided by Sue Bradley, are looking to revive their fortunes after several players retired. So, an early and strong recruitment drive will be important, Kavallieri said.

Meanwhile, utility back Alex Brincat, who lives in Leicester, will be among the new players in the squad.

He is expected to bring much needed guidance for the strong, but sometimes tactically naive, backline.
