Scrabble record breaking attempt in aid of YMCA

YMCA Homeless will aim at breaking the current record of most simultaneous games of Scrabble.

The most games of scrabble played simultaneously were 521 games by 1,042 participants from 65 secondary schools in Singapore on March 14, 2006.

Apart from breaking the current Guinness Record, YMCA Homeless is also organising this event as a fund raiser to sustain its two homeless shelters Dar Niki Cassar and the minors shelter, as well as the drop in Centre.

The event is being held on August 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana.

The Malta Scrabble Club, members of Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, will help YMCA Homeless facilitate the event, and together will brief participants before the Guinness breaking attempt commences.

There will be a participation fee of €10.

People who would like to participate can subscribe online, at YMCA Drop in Centre in Merchant Street, Valletta or call on 2122 8038.

YMCA Homeless provides an average of 60 interventions on a daily basis. YMCA Dar Niki Cassar is home to a maximum of 22 homeless people most of whom are often women and children.

The YMCA minors shelter presently accommodates six young people aged between 14 and 17.
