Updated: Darmanin Demajo and Portelli get accreditation from MFA
Norman Darmanin Demajo and Antoine Portelli, two candidates for the Malta FA elections, were this evening granted accreditation to attend the annual general meeting at the Centenary Hall, on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Darmanin Demajo, who will be contesting the post of president, and Portelli, a candidate for the treasurer’s post, had told The Times that they had delivered a letter by hand to the MFA headquarters on July 28, requesting to attend the annual general meeting.
However, MFA general secretary Joe Gauci was unable to confirm their authorisations, they contended.
In reaction, Gauci denied that the accreditations had been denied to the two candidates.
In a statement, he said Darmanin Demajo and Portelli, who have no right to attend the meeting according to the MFA statute, had reached a hasty conclusion that they were denied access to the AGM after receiving no response to their request from the MFA which is not bound by deadlines to decide such matters.
The statement added that on Thursday president Joe Mifsud opted to leave the decision at the hands of all association officials who agreed to follow the same lines adopted three years ago when Peter Fenech was allowed to be present for the meeting despite not being eligible to attend.

Il-poplu Malti huwa poplu ingrat. Poplu li jinsa' it-tajjeb li jkun sar, minn nies li jkun taw il-gdid lill-pajjiz specjalment il-futbol Malti.
Dr Mifsud ghandu rekord fl-MFA.... Rekord ta' finanzi fis-sod.

TIME FOR CHANGE THE PAST IS HISTORY NEW BLOOD PLEASE
Joe Mifsud has done well over the years but there come s a time when a change is needed. Let s be wise enough to take decisions for our children in the interest of Maltese soccer and not in our own interest.
Thank you Joe for years past......you placed MAlta on the map at European Level without fail , welcome Norman , its time for you......

IT SEEMS THAT DARMANIN DEMAJO IS TRYING TO PLAY THE VICTIM. THATS THE ONLY CREDENTIALS HE CAN PUT FORWARD, NO TRACK RECORD.......ALAS PRESEDENT OF A 3RD DIVISION TEAM. GIVE US A BREAK. DR. JOE MIFSUD SHOULD HAVE THE RESPECT OF ALL FOR WHAT HE HAD ACHIEVED. TO BE A LEADER YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SKIN. GOOD LUCK DR. MIFSUD YOU DESERVE TO BE AT THE HELM OF MFA.

Ma nafx ghala dil-mibgheda kontra Mifsud. Taht l-amministrazzjoni tieghu tjiebet immens l-infrastruttura tal-klabbs u tan-nazzjonal. Gab ukoll l-ghajnuna tal-FIFA biex hafna klabbs zghar setghu jaghmlu ground bl-artificial turf bl-ghajnuna finanzjarja tal-FIFA - xi haga impossibli biex klabb zghir jghamilha wahdu. Wisq nibza li hafna nies milli qed jikkumentaw hawn taht huma armchair critics li qatt ma hadmu go klabb bhala amministraturi f'kumitat.
Kulhadd ghandu d-difetti tieghu, u forsi Mifsud l-aghar difett li ghandu li ma hux daqstant kapaci fir-relazzjonijiet umani. Pero l-esperjenza fil-futbol Malti turi li min ipacpac hafna u juri hafna tlellix finalment ma jasalx biex izomm il-weghdi.

@ J Micallef & Rob Mizzi - You talk as though you understand alot in Maltese Football, and you talk down to people who in your opinion do not understand and are 'armchair critics'. Well, if you understand so much, then could you explain to me why Joe Mifsud, in 15 years as president, never helped any of the local clubs to upgrade their football pitches to turf. It was only when NDD proposed that he would do it 3 years ago that it actually happened. AND it would have never happened had NDD not proposed it in his election campaign. Please get your facts straight

Dr.Joe Mifsud's election campaign slogan is '' Il-passat hu il-mera tal-futur''
How ironic ! He keeps reminding us what to expect if he gets elected again ! More of the same of course !

Good luck Norman and Antoine.

Well Mr David Gatt, you sure messed that one up. Dr Joe Mifsud is Vice President of UEFA and not FIFA - so I doubt whether FIFA will show one iota of attention to your complaint.
This whole farcical saga shows how some people are quick to jump to totally mistaken conclusions.
Will we ever learn?

What a sad man Dr.Mifsud is? Is it possible that UEFA know nothing about this? Is it possible that all the clubs shall vote for this egocentric bombastic president? If he gets elected, Maltese football is reaching its last years! I would like to urge all the voters concerned to vote for Norman and to my friend Antoine! Good luck to both of you! May common sense prevail at last!

How pathetic and undemocratic can Dr Mifsud get? This only happens in the worst dictatorships whereby opposition is curbed and no freedom of expression is allowed. Does Dr Mifsud think that HE alone is the MFA? He should be outruled by the MFA's Board and accreditation be given to the two contenders. If the Board does not intervene, then they are agreeing with his behaviour!! If he has nothing to be afraid of, then he should allow any election candidate to speak up and participate in the AGM!!!!

Shame on you Joe Mifsud. You talk about democracy and all and never lead by example. You are high up in UEFA and then you do this undemocratic act. No wonder football has stopped peaking....because of people like you in high positions. Then you want local football to improve! Or are you afraid of not being elected and this is how you show how your past is a mirror for your future - YOUR WORDS! I do call for a change on your decision!

I am not the national team player who happens to share my same name and surname. I am not even remotely related to him or to Dr. Joseph Mifsud. For me the decision to bar one's competitors from being present at the venue of the contest is both base and very unsportsmanlike. It goes against any principle of fair play and, unfortunately it reflects very badly on the individual who takes such a decision, especially if he occupies a high position and moreover if he has the responsibility to ensure adherence to fair play principles amongst the members of the association! Being a bully is not trendy and definitely not admired by the sporting public. May fresh air blow through this forthcoming AGM. If not...then the association members really would deserve the mediocrity and arrogance they would have voted for. But then don't expect any support... if you are not prepared to listen to the overriding general public opinion.

Dear Maltese Football Clubs ... this is all your fault because your members keep on voting JM to safeguard their position within the MFA. Now, do not blame the paying public that they refuse to come to Ta' Qali but rather stay home watching foreign football. The ball is in your court. Vote for change, vote for democracy, vote for a bright future, else just stay there and enjoy playing the Premier League with walking pace in front of a crowd of 400 people.
