With what seemed like a well-rehearsed set piece, the audience watching this year’s dance show organised recently by Dance College Studios of Msida chorused a sigh of wonderment as a group of toddlers trotted onto the stage.

Some of these aspiring dancers followed the routine they had learnt, others stood still focusing on the audience trying to locate their parents, several looked completely awed by the occasion while more than a few jumped around apparently intent to wow the audience.

A hearty round of applause laced with a string of appreciative comments met the toddlers’ performance.

This year’s show held at the St Monica School in Gżira and called iDance was held on two evenings in order to meet the demand from the number of people who wanted to see the display.

The seductive lighting for most of the show and hand-picked pop music accompanying the dancers and the hip costumes the dancers wore turned the two evenings into pleasant nights out.

As Dance College Studio principal, Kim Spiteri said at the end of the show, there is more to dancing than just the enjoyment this artistic activity gives one.

“Dancing helps to build self-esteem, discipline, poise and posture and more importantly self-confidence”.

This time, as was the case last year, the Studios roped in foreign teacher Nathalie Lucas from France, for the second year running, to help out in workshops. Also this year, the Studios brought over Nick, also from France to help out in the classes. Nick is scheduled to be back next year for a Hip-Hop workshop and other classes.

As is traditional with Dance College Studios, a number of students were presented with awards for their commitment, hard work and level of achievement. The students were Kirsty Ebejer, Salome Amaira, Katinka Friedrich and Nadine Mifsud.
