A man from St Paul’s Bay this morning denied hiding a man from Mali in his trailer truck to transport him to Sicily on the Catamaran yesterday.

Simon Haber, 27, of St Paul’s Bay, was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to trafficking in people and conspiring with foreigners to carry out a crime.

Toure Nuha, 28, of Mali, was jailed for six months after he pleaded guilty to failing to present travel documents on disembarking in Malta.

Police inspectors Edel Mary Camilleri and Mario Haber told the court that the men were arrested as they were disembarking.

Mr Nuha had to pay Mr Haber €1,300 euros on arrival in Sicily. But the police got to know of the operation and recalled the Catamaran, which had already left the quay.
