Jeffrey Pisani was a whisker away from breaking into the top six in the ISSF World Championship Trap shoot yesterday after hitting rounds of 22 and 24 to add to the 23 and double 25 of Monday.

Pisani finished on a score of 119 from a total of 125. However, his bold effort was still not good enough to earn him a place in the barrage as he fell two clays short of a shoot-off for sixth place.

Pisani was among 16 shooters to finish on 119 points overall. He was officially classified at no.25. There were six competitors that finished on 121 and the play-off for sixth place went to Jacob Turner, of the United States.

Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo and Czech Jiri Liptak led the way with 123 points before the barrage but both lost range in the decisive stage of the competition which was won by Alberto Fernandez on 143.

Liptak also lost a shoot-off for second place with Russia’s Alexey Alipov after both had accumulated the same score of 142. Pellielo had to settle for fourth place (141).

In all, 158 shooters took part, among whom other Maltese Trap competitors Nazzareno Attard and Jason J. Aquilina.

Attard finished with an overall score of 114 (24, 24, 22, 24, 20) and Aquilina 106 (23, 19, 21, 21, 22).
