The longest swim in the Birkirkara St Joseph Open Water Swimming Series will be held tomorrow at Tax-Xama in St Paul’s Bay, starting at 5 p.m.
This swim, the fifth and penultimate of the series, will be held on four one-kilometre laps.
The race is also a qualifier for those aspiring to do the club’s Gozo-Malta Open Water Swimming Challenge 2010 which will be held on August 21.
A large number of swimmers are expected to take part in both races, while interest is growing for the inaugural 11-kilometre Malta-Gozo-Malta swim, also on August 21.
Birkirkara SJ have already received applications from a number of foreign swimmers interested in trying the Gozo-Malta channel crossing.
However, such applications will have to be approved by the club’s Swimming Board prior to confirmation.
The charity institution which will benefit from funds raised in the club’s long distance swims, will be the Inspire Foundation.
Race entry forms and regulations are available from the club. One may also obtain more details by phoning Birkirkara SJ officials on 9946-6256.
