Mosta church parvis revamped

The Resources Ministry is finishing off rehabilitation works on the parvis of Mosta Church.

The €200,000 project has centered on the rebuilding of the parvis wall and railings according to original designs made in 1860 by architect Giorgio Grognet de Vasse, who designed the church.

Two baroque granite fountains are also being installed on either side of the main parvis entrance. Architect Grognet had himself indicated in his plans that he intended to have fountains near the entrance of the church.

The Mosta church authorities allocated €80,000 for the work in Maltese stone.

@ Cris Grech, Thobba lil Mosta u lil Mostin biex trid taqleb is-sistema ta'kif jidhol it-traffiku fil-Mosta. Taf li ilha xi 14 il-sena jew aktar kif inhi? Taf kemm zdied it-traffiku f'Malta dan iz-zmien kollu? Kieku kella tinqaleb kif tohlom inti u shabek, minn fejn ser johrog it-traffiku ? Mhux mit- Triq il-Kbira lejn in-Naxxar ! Ma' tafx li din telgha u aktar exhaust u tniggis tal-arja fil-Mosta ? Hallu kolox kif inhu ghax issa indrat u tkomplux tisservew bir-Rotunda u b'tal-hwienet ghax dan tal-ahhar hafna minnhom ma joghqodux il- Mosta wara li jghalqu l-hanut w u tniggis u l-mard li jgib mieghu ma'jaffetwawhomx.

Il-problema hi, li s-sens komun jgħidlek ukoll li trid taħseb fil-bqija tat-traffic u kif se jgħaddi, kif se joħroġ mill-pjazza eżempju. Barra min hekk trid tara li ma titlifx postijiet ta'parking! Mhux la taqbad tghid sieħbi...

Mill-bqija, xogħol mill-isbaħ. Iġri naraw dawk l-istatwi tal-bronż f'posthom fuq iz-zuntier issa.

Do you know how many thousands of tourists come to visit this church every year? They don't pay a fee to go inside and admire this national treasure!! Tourists are important for Malta's economy, therefore I think the project's partial financing by the government is fair enough. The rest is being paid by the church.

nahseb ghax-xoghol li taghmel il-Knisja f'Malta, hafna drabi bla hlas (ez. id-Dar tal-Providenza, is-sorijiet, tal-Muzew, u hafna ghaqdiet ohra) haqqa tircievi certu ghajnuniet mill-pajjiz, f'dak li jidhol restawr u infrastuttura, li huma vera propjeta tal-Knisja, imma nghiduha kif inhi dawn il-monumenti jaghmlu l-Malta dik li hi

Pity St.Publius church wasn't also lit up for the Winter Moods concert. Joseph Calleja was criticised for not uttering a word in Maltese but had that lovely backdrop (which he mightily deserves). But Winter Moods had the whole concert's theme centred on Malta, even singing one of the all time Maltese favourites, but with the beautiful St. Publius church sadly unlit.

Sorry to disappoint you both. The Minister was indeed there in all his glory in time to make it to the 8'o clock news that very night. It is our money after all which is going to embellish private property:) and who better to represent us:)

Mr. Ray Abela, I suggest you come to Mosta and take a closer look at the work done because there is no plastering and painting.... just natural Maltese stone made to perfection. A well-deserved parvis for a majestic church.

St.Publius church in Floriana was also heavily damaged during WW2 much more than a hole. Mr. Charles Sammut would have maybe wanted to have the church remain in the state it was, as a further "monument" of the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche type in Berlin !!.

@ Jesmond Micallef

Sorry I was just being sarcastic, I was referring to the horrible City Gate project which, for a measly €80,000,000(initial estimtate, expect it to triple) will give us a modern (mostly empty) parliament house on stilts, an Opera House in ruins as a bombed monument and a City Gate which is not there.

Tipparkjawx ftal-Blata l-Gholja ghal-festa ghax hemm hofor li jiblalkom nofs suspension tal-karozza.

Jekk joghgob lill-awtoritajit isibu xi €200,000 ohra biex jitrangaw it toroq ta' hemm, il hajt pastazata li inbena fl-ewwel triq u jitnehha ir-rimi ta' skart tal-kostruzjoni fl-ghalqa ta' wara' dan il-hajt.
