A drunk 28-year-old man from Valletta confronted a group of Maltese-Canadians with a replica shotgun when they removed a piece of wood from in front of his garage so that they could take pictures, a court was told today.

The case happened in St Christopher Street at about 4 p.m. last Saturday.

The Maltese-Canadians had been taking photographs of the street when Kevin Grech emerged from the garage where he lives and started swearing and threatening them after they removed the piece of wood from in front of his garage so that it would not show in the picture.

Mr Grech admitted the charges in court today and apologised. He said he had been under the influence of alcohol but he was not that type of person. He said such an incident would not happen again.

The court placed Mr Grech under probation for a year and fined him €50. It also placed the victims under a protection order and Mr Grech was warned not to approach them, against a guarantee of €500.
