The MIA said that last month's mean air temperature was 26.7 °C which exceeded the climate norm by 0.8 °C. The highest average temperature occurred on July 24th when the average temperature peaked to around 6°C more than 30-year climate norm. But during the following seven days, the average temperature fell to around 1 °C less than the norm.
The highest air temperature last month peaked to 38.3 °C on July 24th. This was, however, 4.4 °C less than the highest temperature of 42.7 °C recorded in July 1988.
The lowest temperature was 19.9 °C and this was recorded on July 3rd and 30th. The coolest July night was on July 2nd 1923 with a low of 13.9°C.
The wind speed in July, averaging 6.0 knots, was less than expected during a typical July. For 88% of the time it was in the light speed bracket (1-10 knots). The NorthWest by West was the most frequent direction, the MET office said.
On July 24th a maximum wind gust of 39 knots was recorded from the NorthWest by West. This was 5 knots higher than average since 1947. But the highest wind gust measured at Luqa airport recorded during the month of July since 1947 is 47 knots, recorded on July 2nd 1954.
The average sea surface temperature was 25.3 °C. This is 1.2 °C higher than the average value for July since 1978.
The mean relative humidity last month was 68% which is slightly lower than then 30-year mean climate average of 69%. No rainfall was recorded at Luqa Airport.
July had an average of 11 hours and 55 minutes of sunshine a day, which is slightly less than the July norm.
