Liquefied petroleum gas sold to customers will today drop in price by an average of six per cent.

Liquigas Malta explained the LPG price adjustment is the result of favourable fluctuations in the euro/dollar exchange rate and a slight raw material price decrease.

A 10 kg cylinder of LPG has been reduced from €11.80 to €11.10; the price of a 12 kg cylinder has fallen from €13.90 to €13.10; a 15 kg cylinder will now cost €16 instead of €17, and that of a 25 kg cylinder has dropped from €27.30 to €25.70.

The cuts follow a much criticised rise in prices introduced at the beginning of last month, and prices are still considerably higher than they were in June.

Liquigas is required by the Malta Resources Authority to publish the price of LPG and propane a day before the end of each month, with new prices applicable on the first day of each month.

The company said LPG prices will continue to be reviewed on a monthly basis according to the MRA's methodology, meaning the selling price may vary on a monthly basis to reflect product cost variations on the international markets.

Propane gas prices remain unchanged from last month.
