PL backs appeal in election corrupt practices case
The Labour Party said today that the fact that the Attorney General had appealed the court's decision on alleged electoral corrupt practices confirmed the credibility of its deputy leader, Anglu Farrugia, who had raised the case with the police.
Dr Farrugia had claimed that a man threatened two of his employees and warned them to vote PN. The first court had found no corrupt practice and said there was nothing wrong with a person encouraging others to vote and providing transport.
The PL said the facts presented in this case were well founded and clear.
The AG had decided to appeal despite attempts by the prime minister and the PN to downplay the fact that a person had said she was threatened to vote PN, or she would lose her job, the PL said.
The PL said its ultimate aim was for people to be able to vote in full freedom.

2.. So, if A.D. will have 4500 or more votes from all Malta and Gozo, it will have a seat in parliament. If we go with logic, with our present system, there are always a big chance to have a non popular government. The two STRONGEST PARTIES will not love it to change this system, obviously, because it might turn against them both. Even so, at least when a party gets nearly 4000 votes I will not dump him, I will put its leader as an observer and take full part in minor decisions, and will make part in sub committees in parliament. But he will not have the casting vote.

If anything this case shows how wrong it was to meddle with justice in the house of parliament especially before the case was completely closed. The attorney general did not need any prompting to do his duty. How far this is from the times we suffered under the labour regime when the duties of the judges where changed to satisfy the whims of the mlp!!!

After the judge sentence on this particular case, the PN in its excitement issued a press release asking for an apology and resignation of Anglu Farrugia saying also that he was unfit to be Deputy Leader of the PL.
Now what? As the maltese saying goes Min jobzoq fis-sema jigi f'wiccu.
A clear case of spinning exercise gone bad for the PN.

The reason why the Attorney General is appealing this case is in order to have a “Test Case” for future references!
And by the look of it, it seems that the Court of Appeal will confirm the first judgment.

Wonder of wonders!! The Pl backs appeal in election corrupt practises case!! Did anyone think that they would not? This shows what true democray is all about nowadys!! Would the MLP of yesteryears ever start such a case? Would they ever start a case against all those votes'stolen' from St.Vincent de Paule inmates? Or those who did not vote because of thugs bullying them at Zejtun?? What would they do if the appeal is also lost?

".....the fact that the Attorney General had appealed the court's decision on alleged electoral corrupt practices confirmed the credibility of its deputy leader, Anglu Farrugia,...."
That is not how I interpret it at all. Once this case is thrown out on appeal as well, there will be not even the shadow of a doubt that Anglu Farrugia's case was competely unfounded and that there was not even the slightest hint of corrupt practice.
Now if the AG were as diligent in his duty, the cases of gross overspending in the MEP election campaign would be thoroughly investigated. Not only because it is obvious that electoral law was broken and incorrect statements made, but also from a money laundering aspect. Where did the hundreds of thousands of Euros spent, come from? Who paid them? What did s/he/they expect in return?
This would have been thoroughly investigated in any other EU country as is happening in France in the case of the Liliane Bettencourt's of L'Oreal 'donations' to Sarkozy's party.

Well done Dr. Anglu Farrugia, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. Just do your job with a sense of righteousness and let the dogs of war bark. In all fairness, I will not comment any further until the appeal is heard in Court.

......"the PL said it's ultimate aim is for people to be able to vote in full freedom " How about the labour thug alias the aristocrats of democracy who entered the zejtun pollig booths and terrorized the voters who were there. How about the trusted friend!!!!!!!!who the labour government was legally allowed to accompany voters in the polling booth simply to help them decide which option to mark YES or NO ? Thats LABOUR FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY

You can deduct another one. She was a Canadian woman who did not know how to speak Maltese and who was accompanied by a Malese woman telling her which PN candidate to vote. It was the flight from London on the 2nd March 2008. Is it with these votes that the PN won? Is it with people who shouldn't have a say in decision making that PN wins?
Tell you one thing Forte, I don't want to be part of your cheating party.

@ A.Grech...After reading the fourth paragraph, quote;" The A.G. had decided to appeal DESPITE ATTEMPTS by the P.M.and the P.N........" leaves me no doubt ,no time to rush and push to say what I have said. Let me be a prophet, and say that the A.G. will be going through hell on earth by his decision.

Since you give so much importance to 1580 votes, can you please tell me what would you think of 3800?
1580 votes decided who rules in the last election - yet those 3800 voters who voted for Alternattiva Demokratika have NO representation in Parliament.
Both PL and PN have hijacked our country through their systems of favouritsm, through their brainwashing media and through a flawed electoral system that does not allow fair representation.

1 @ David Caruana..........I will go further than show you what I think about the " 3810 " votes of the A.D. First of all I am a labourite, but I call white, white and black, black, and not everything RED. 3810 ( A.D ) + 1633 ( Sm. Parties ) = 5443 votes. For the P.N./ P.L. these voters are nothing, they do not exists in Malta, because of the corrupt system of how we do our elections, that leaves no chance for another party to grow. Now, if you count 141888 ( P.L ) + 5443 ( oth parties) = 147331.The P.N. is governing with 143468 votes. Now if you subtract 147331 - 143468 = 3863. This means that 3863 MALTESE CITIZENS are against that the P.N. govern, and not the 1580 that is dividing the two STRONGEST PARTIES in Malta. What will I do if I have authority. I use this system. Let say there are 295000 votes. I will divide it by 65 = 4500 Apx. Then everybody vote for the party and not for the individual. Then the votes will be changed into seats.
