Liquigas announces gas price cut

Liquigas Malta has announced a reduction in LPG prices effective as from tomorrow.

Liquigas explained that this LPG price adjustment was the result of favourable fluctuations in the euro/dollar exchange rate and a slight price decrease of the raw material. This translates into an average reduction of 6% to the final customer.

This is the second revision taking place during the last two months following July's price adjustment, the company said.

Liquigas is required by the Malta Resources Authority (MRA) to publish the price of LPG/propane a day before the end of each month. Prices will be applicable on the first day of each month.

"LPG prices will continue to be reviewed on a monthly basis according to MRA's methodology and, therefore, the selling price may vary on a monthly basis to reflect product cost variations on the international markets," the company said.

Price variations will apply only if and when the variation in the product cost is +/- 2% when compared to the previous month's price.

I think it means that the price will NOT be adjusted if the variation is less than 2% up or down.

I think I have to explain that the first table shows a 12kg cylinder costing before 13.90 (thirteen euros NINETY cents) and the second revised price as 13.10 (thirteen euros TEN cents) meaning that, as per third column a change of minus 80 cents.

I hope that I got my readings as well as my maths right and am not a "donkey".

Mr. Zammit,
Why do you say that the 12 Kg cylinder has no price change ?
Before it was Euro 13.90 and as from tomorrow it will retail for Euro 12.10
A difference of Euro 0.80 ( 80 cents)

How about reducing wine prices which in the majority of restaurants have a mark-up of 3/4 times what it costs to buy the same bottle from the shops!

@mr. Farrugia....lesson in mark up prices. cost price + labour cost+ overheads, rent, utility bills, + 18% Vat. meaning a bottle of wine at a wholesale of 6.00 euros should be sold at 18.00 in order to make a profit of 1.25 eu. In my case it is even less cause I pay 38000 eu rent for a premises with 15 tables in a side street in Valletta. And 8 employees. Now you do the Math.

@Mr P.Borg
Very well said, most people think that restaurants or shops in general are making good money and charging hefty prices, when in reality many of them are struggling to make ends meet.
