These cases led to a big number of criminal proceedings.
This was evident from the fact that throughout through the period that Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano presided the Court which decided on drug cases there were 3,658 (2003 – 2010) new cases presented, of which 2,895 were decided. This was apart from other cases linked to drug which were pending in front of other magistrates.
The ministry said that while such positive work should be registered, these figures showed that the fight against drugs was ongoing and that the people’s assistance in this fight was an important instrument for people involved in this criminal sector to continue being identified, the ministry said.
