The Italian in Malta
Far from passing through the same hellish ordeal Mark Camilleri and Alex Vella Gera are going through because of their short story Li Tkisser Sewwi in the Realtà University magazine, whoever wrote the popular dirty story The Italian Man Who Went To Malta not only got away with it but it's been selling on T-shirts and tea towels to tourists for I don't know how many years now. It's not fair.

racism is not exactly what malta needs, espcially with regards italians.

The sooner this stupid joke about the Italian in Malta is forgotten, the better. It is, first of all, racist and secondly, it betrays a gross ignorance of Italians - many Italians may not pronounce English perfectly (and neither do the great majority of Maltese) but their characteristic pronunciation of English is not at all with the kind of accent as misrepresented in the "joke".

'The Italian who went to (........)' story has been around at least since the 1970s. I have seen cheap souvenirs with the joke in other English-speaking countries, and I suspect that it originated in the United States.
More than 'dirty', it is totally un-PC by today's standards, but this merely adds to its charm.

Are you really comparing 'the Italian who went to Malta' to 'Li Tkisser Sewwi'?
You must read them both before commenting!!
