On July 23, as one of my daughters and her husband were on their way home at about 1.30 a.m. from a wedding reception outside Rabat, they noticed two young girls (of about 14) walking on their own in a semi-deserted road.

My daughter asked them where they were going at that hour and they replied that they were on their way to their host family at Ta’ Sriedek. The girls politely refused a lift.

My daughter could understand the girls’ reluctance to accept a lift home with strangers.

However, she couldn’t understand how girls of such a tender age were allowed out at such an hour in a strange country in a semi-deserted road. No wonder undesirable things happen!

I feel host families should show more responsibility towards the youngsters left under their care.
