PM tours the Waterfront
Private sector investment at the Waterfront since the inauguration of the project has now reached €35 million.
This not only beneficial to tourists but also to the Maltese, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this morning.
Speaking during a visit to the Waterfront, accompanied by Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco, Dr Gonzi said the investment included the restoration of the area, through which its heritage re-emerged. Blended with modern features, this now offers a product and service to all visitors.
The Prime Minister welcomed the fact that the cruise liner industry grew again this year so much so that the number of cruise passengers had doubled.
He described the port as a jewel but pointed out there were still challenges ahead and everyone involved had to continue working hard to ensure continuous success.
Dr Gonzi and Dr de Marco were shown around the shops and tourist facilities by Viset management personnel.
They boarded the two cruise liners present – the Aidabella and the MSC Splendida, where they were welcomed by the ships’ officers and chatted with some of the tourists on board.

Mr. Prim Minister
Sir,
Allow me to put my two penny worth.
It is a pleasure and an honor having you visit these NEW PROJECTS. Allow me to say prosit, although, for the record I am only a humble commoner!
I sure wish you come to our village (town) Zebbug to see our New Government financed/assisted projects. But than come to think of it I do not remember of any. In fact the last big project was the bypass we have, it is one lane two lane thing that has entrapped us and sometime we need twenty minutes to come out of Zebbug to go on the main road.

Mr, Salerno,
This project was created by PL between 96-98 and continuoued by PN Governments which is a very good sign of business continuity. If PL have stayed in Government we would have witness more projects but PL is full of short-term minded people.

Why Viset didn't bring down the PM when there's no cruiseliners??? Because without cruiseliners Waterfront is dead. Maybe it's true that cruiseliners doubled but beleive me that all the best cruiseliners with best tourists has stopped choosing Malta Port and chose ports that are much less expensive. It;s not the quantity that we want but the quality. Valletta Waterfront was much more beautiful till two years ago with much more cruiseliners, concerts and other events. It's much better for Viset to get suitable people who will make Valletta Waterfront as it was before!!!!

In former times, Valletta Waterfront was full of Maltese Boats ferrying sailors and seamen of the British Royal Navy to and fro, not to mention the emigrant ships to Australia, Canada and the USA. Let there be more passengers and majestic cruise liners in the very beautifull Grand Harbour of Valletta !!

Viset please note that the Waterfront is looking dingy with dead plants, mix and match lighting, as well as over expansion of the seated areas with mismatched awnings spoiling what started off as a really lovely place.

The new Malta Experience is definitely on its way. I congratulate the Government of Malta.
