Readers have expressed their disappointment that the free tickets for the Classics Under The Stars concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra had been "sold" out within an hour of being made available to the public (July 24).
I too had requested tickets for my family, my children being keen students of the Johann Strauss School of Music. Unfortunately, tickets were taken up within the hour, by 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Although I have been placed on a waiting list by a very polite lady at the OPM in the (unlikely?) event that some seats would be available, on following this up on Friday morning I was informed that my chances were indeed very slim.
Since the whole aim of this activity was "to reach and go to the community", I strongly encourage the OPM to consider a repeat of this concert - and this time at a venue capable of holding a much larger audience - for the benefit of all those music-lovers who were not fortunate enough to obtain tickets within the hour on Thursday morning. This keen interest for cultural events should be encouraged, all the more so when a family-oriented activity such as this implies educating future generations who are not normally exposed to these experiences.
