Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has congratulated Magistrate Lawrence Quintano following his nomination to become a judge, and lawyers Mark Chetcuti and Marse-Ann Farrugia, who are to be appointed magistrates.

Magistrate Quintano was born on July 29, 1949 in Birkirkara and was appointed magistrate on February 14, 2003. He presided over drug and other criminal cases after having previously served as a lawyer in the Attorney-General's office.

Dr Chetcuti, who was born on February 4, 1958, has practiced as a lawyer for 28 years. specialising in family and civil law. He served as an arbiter in the Malta Arbitration Centre in civil and commercial cases and was a member of the Refugees Appeals Board. He was also chairman of the Controlled Companies Appeals Board.

Dr Farrugia, born on July 30, 1971, has been a lawyer since 1993. She participated in several cases related to civil law and human rights and in 2004 was appointed judicial assistant and legal secretary to the Chief Justice.
