Winter Moods concert postponed
The Winter Moods concert has been rescheduled to July 30 due to the unforeseen postponement of the Joseph Calleja concert to July 29.
Nng Promotions apologised for the inconvenience and said that the technical and logistical preparations for the Winter Moods concert amounted to a massive operation involving hundreds of man hours, required to cater for the massive crowd which has already surpassed the record-breaking paying attendance of 2008.
NNG Promotions said that this decision was being taken to ensure that concert was not compromised in anyway and that the thousands of Winter Moods fans attending the event would get to enjoy it to the full.

Some facts:
1) Whenever an open air concert is planned, adverse weather conditions can have an impact on the success or otherwise of the said concert.
2) ALL tickets are bought subject to the organisers' terms & conditions. Flip over your ticket and read. See that clause that says the organisers can and WILL postpone/cancel the concert if unforeseen circumstances take place that necessitate such action? That alone says a lot. Also, some have clauses that say that the organisers are not bound to give refunds and/or organise another concert. So before buying, analyse these terms. If you don't want to risk, don't buy a ticket.
3) Those complaining about the effect of wind on concerts, have you forgotten what happened at Fra Ben when a girl ended up paralysed due to scaffolding falling over? What would you have said had such an accident happened again? Surely: "The concert had to be cancelled / postponed!!" Be consistent and appreciate the fact that no one likes postponing concerts, especially those organising and performing in them.
4) I'm confident (hopeful) NNG, as a business, will consider giving refunds and/or replacement ticket to other concerts - it's in their business interest.

Why all this fuss???? These postponments of concerts for one thing or another happen worldwide.
I surely think that the organisers do have a big headache regarding all this. They would have preferred that everything ran according to schedule but all these changes had to be done to ensure excellent performances. That's professionalism! Definetely, this change is going to incur extra costs on the organisers themselves.
P.S. I have nothing to do with NNG, but when such things happen, I do my thinking and analyse!

All these postponements due to strong winds!!! I just hope that Mr.Piano takes a note of this. This is a taste of what we are going to get in an open air theatre. Joseph Calleja are not ready to continue in strong winds ... and well amidst petard acoustics.

@ G Bonnici.
You are entitled to your opinion but I dare say that you are very wrong. Winter Moods are not over rated as you say. They are a very good rock band who through their compassion raised thousands of Euros to help animal sanctuaries in Malta through SOLD OUT concerts and SOLD OUT CD.s I augure a brighter future to these highly talented musicians.
G Bonnici
Jul 25th 2010, 22:41
Yes I respect Winter Moods for all they did and are still doing to raise money for animal welfare as I am an animal lover too and I donate money regularly and am an AAA member. However, the argument of SOLD OUT concerts for me has no weight to argue how good a musician or a band is. An example: Britney Spears and Lady Gaga have sold millions of their records and their concerts are always sold out. Does this make them good musicians? Of course not. It's just music for the masses. Very often it happens that the best musicians and songwriters are not the ones who are most followed or admired. In other words its the music for the masses (tal-widna) that wins the selling competition, but this does not mean that musically or artistically it's the best. Very often, it actually means the opposite.

Mr Bonnici
Where were you last year's Isle of MTV? Because I don't think you were on the granaries screaming with the thousands of people while Lady Gaga was performing a piano solo while singing Poker Face. At that moment everyone was astounished by how passionate and elegant she performed while she was playing the piano and doing her seductive movements. Don't get me wrong I'm not that huge fan of Lady Gaga.
Even when it comes to Winter Moods. Music for them is a kind of magic. Music isn't about how loud you play your guitar, but how your feeling could be expressed by your guitar. Music isn't about how much you bang on the drums, but how the beat builds up the tension in the music. But most of all music especially in a band should be about the growth of unity with the people you love the most. For Winter Moods, being in the band is like belonging to a brotherhood. Moreover, many bands do music just to make money, but bands that do this will eventually breakup. Yet those whom experience unity through their band are still living on.

Winter Moods are soooooo very much over rated. I've been listening to rock music (and not only rock) for at least 25 years now .... and so I can compare quite well with the scores of bands I know .... I can honestly say that I don't find anything original or admirable in their music, sound, lyrics or even look. Not that they're bad, but nothing artistic or original that's all. Like Ira Losco the wannabe Rock Star ! hehee.... Having said that, I hope that they have a good concert and a great time with all their fans.

I am sure that Winter Moods are not happy with this.. as usual in Malta , First preference is always to the foreigner, I did not plan to attend the Wednesday Concert but for sure I will be there next Friday, to support the best talent ever in Malta and 100% Maltese... Have we ever seen any of the foreign acts supporting charity acts locally ?? NO have we ever seen Winter Moods?? Yes!!! every week. THEY DESERVE US THERE NEXT FRIDAY ….. AND WE OWN THEM... 25 years of great music... and Friends.. Friends for ever........

O' Bros & Sisters (that includes other brethren with a loose canon)...plllllllease...lets think b4 we shoot! Postponed NOT cancelled!!! My sypmpathy goes to those who have other commitments on both rescheduled dates; personally i had pencilled both events months ago as a must go...now be it public safety or otherwise - lets not squabble further and hail the organisers' degree of responsibility...what worse a scenario if any of the activities were to be cancelled? Those of us who still can: Lets make it an epic concert for Calleja, WINTER MOODS and the other local participating bands - all deserve our support.

What does Lorenzo Piano theatre at Freedom Square got to do with the Winter Mood concert? I pity all those who continue to prove their wrong interpretation of events by mixing issues. For me, the proposed Piano theatre is a monument in itself. We do not need another closed theatre. We already have one at Manoel's theatre, Valletta. Who needs another enclosed one. The new open proposed theatre was an excellent idea as this will serve as a historical monument of the old theatre that was destroyed during WW2. As for the Winter Moods and Calleja's concerts, these should have been held in an enclosed theatre and not in the open air.

Two open spaces a few hundred meters away.... both open air... both exposed to rain, sun, humidity, heat, noise pollution, fireworks, bombi...etc
Can you see the picture now or do you need Caravaggio to paint a clearer one?
It is not a "new open proposed theatre" it is a ruin to be left as a ruin.

I am getting seriously fed up with the likes of Mr Calleja who obviously know absolutely nothing about theatres ( i doubt if he ever entered one. If Mr Calleja is happy spending 8 million euros on a glorified piazza so be it. But perhaps he should try to explain what this is a monument to? our total lack of imagination, the death of creativity in Malta or what? Old theatres certainly don't need monuments to themselves. What an absurd thought!!

Winter Moods concert should be in Winter, not Summer, as the name suggests.

Jul 25th 2010, 15:00
This does not make sense at all. Due to Joseph Calleja's concert postponement, Winter Moods's concert is going to be postponed too. Don't you think that it should have been Calleja's concert only which should have been postponed instead of both?!! What about the people who bought the tickets for both concerts and cannot make it on the new dates and what about those who may have come from abroad to see the concert and have to return back to their country, (especially Calleja's, who is well known internationally)?
Luke Gatt
Jul 25th 2010, 14:26
NNG did the right thing, why? Well Winter Moods will be using a different stage , setup and different PA system. This is because the Winter Moods concert is a rock concert whilst that of Joseph Calleja is a Classical one!
NNG can not possibly arrange everything in a night (sound checks and so forth) , hence the next logical thing to do was to postpone the Winter Moods concert so that they can set up the stage as required.
PS. I do not work with NNG.
Deo Catania
Jul 25th 2010, 16:46
What logic are you talking about? the most logical thing would have been to leave the Winter Moods concert as planned and postpone Calleja's concert to Friday 30 July.

Deo dear your wisdom amazes me - the Artists who will be performing during the Calleja concert are already here in Malta they have other commitments, ergo the concert needs to be over and done with ASAP.

i agree with luke as the set up for joseph calleja requires more work and rehearsals ... on stage there will be the orchestra , and the 500 children (choir), how can they in one night change the setting and carry out the necessary rehearsals!!!

This was not a concert on a boat or by the sea.
I called on site and there was no danger on the fosos yesterday at 8pm. San Publju still there in fact.
All that dooming and glooming blogging (sound aside) of yesterday and Friday was all for nothing.
Have a nice weekend to all!

... and the Beer Festival @ Ta' Qali was not cancelled! Something is not right. Wintermoods should have made it to the Beer Festival this year.
Agree with Mr. Chetcuti, the Wintermoods concert has become an indirect FREE Concert with all the offers going on at the moment. Do i sense panic from the organisers/band management? Fossos is not Valletta Waterfront. They should have played @ the Beer Festival this year.

You are the only voice of reason and common sense. Another open theatre in Valletta will be a waste of 80 million euros.

Sorry to get the politicians into this..... but i have to.
So, Dear Prime Minister and all in favour of an open air theatre in Valetta.......can you take a leaf out of this chaos caused by the winds to the Joseph Calleja and Winter Moods concert?

Winter moods concert got postponed because the Joseph Callejja concert got postponed because of bad weather conditions.
Those who still favour the Piano Theater stand up and say "ME". Then you can remburse Malta's coffers with €80,000,000.

This is outrageous and will definitely prove to be a huge dent in NNG's reputation. This is lack of professionalism on their part. They didn't have equipment to cater for the possibility of strong winds and they didn't even have a plan B! Worse still, they're now postponing another concert because of it. This is utter disrespect for paying customers and utterly shameful. Let's hope, at least, they have the decency to hand out refunds.

If you have any equipment to beat the strength of force 7 winds and hold a concert in those conditions without affecting the quality of the performance, then let us know and i can guarantee you you'll hold a Guinness World Record.
