A summer school on Spatial Data Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was recently held at the University of Malta (UOM) campus, Msida.

It was organised by the UOM in collaboration with University College London's (UCL) department of civil, environmental and geomatic engineering, and the University of Portsmouth's geography department.

The summer school was attended a group of delegates who had the opportunity to apply GIS using spatial statistical techniques, available in GIS software, and investigate aspects of data quality. It included a number of lectures complemented by hands-on sessions.

Delegates comprised workers from utility companies and government agencies as well as researchers interested in developing skills in this area of study.

The teaching faculty consisted of Maria Attard (UOM), Muki Haklay (UCL), Helena Titheridge (UCL), Claire Ellul (UCL), Kate Jones (Portsmouth) and Thérèse Bajada (UOM).
