Calleja concert being held on Thursday
The Joseph Calleja, Dionne Warwick and Riccardo Cocciante concert has been moved to Thursday at The Granaries in Floriana at 8.30 p.m.
The concert was postponed due to weather forecasts which predicted very strong winds, including the possibility of near gale force winds.
NNG Promotions apologised for the inconvenience and emphasised that the concert needed to be postponed to ensure that the thousands of guests attending the event would enjoy the best possible experience and performance from all the artists and orchestra.

Two concerts in two days! Wow what a week this will be! Moreover the headliners of these concerts will be Maltese artists!
Wintermoods are considered to be our local rock legends! For two decades Wintermoods have given us some of the best music this island have ever listened. The concert held on the Valletta Waterfront was simply amazing. I really cannot wait for next Wednesday's Concert
On the other hand our local Pavarotti, Joseph Calleja has the best voice I have ever heard. Alot of people Around the world have heard of Calleja's powerfull voice! We Maltese People should be very proud of him. As for the Concert, it was a wise thing to postpone it. Open air concert have these risks! Still I'm sure that Calleja is worth the risk and worth waiting for!

Pity the renzo piano open box is not ready.
This is an open lesson to our Prime minister to re consider in building our national opera house as it should be.
If persisting,it is going to be your downfall, because we opera lovers, and people who love to see our national culture are not going to forget this scandal of an open box that will haunt you forever.
Please re consider again ,and let the people choice prevail.

So the concert will now be held on Thursday, unless of course the wind picks up again or it rains or there is excessive noise from birds or whatever.
What all the Government/Piano supporters here seem to overlook is the fact that successive Governments pre election have promised to re-build the bombed opera house, and have been doing so since the war ended. Now your Government are building themselves a new Parliament, which is not required and is going to be an ugly eyesore at a time when the country is trying to recover from the worst recession in recent history. And to keep you all happy you are being thrown the crumb of a roofless building designed by someone who obviously has no idea of the requirements of such a building in Malta.
No wonder the country is turning into the concrete jungle that it is.

Joseph Calleja is the star of the show - Cocciante and Warwick are a bonus.... we should all be proud of our national gem who has a full schedule performing all over the world. He only performs here once a year because he is proud to be Maltese and wishes to transmit his passion for music to his compatriots, even passing on this love to our children. We should be thankful for that! This was truly a case of force majeure. The organisers could hardly have altered weather conditions!!! I feel that one cannot even begin to imagine the trouble NNG must have gone through to make sure that the concert would still be held with the same line up on an alternative day. So we should all appreciate the fact that this was an unfortunate case of unforseen circumstances. For those who cannot make the concert on Thursday just sell your tickets ... I am sure there are still people who have not booked since they could not make it on the 24th but would be delighted to attend on Thursday. On this island complaining about everything is simply the order of the day ... how sad!

I clearly remember reading somewhere that the organizers had an option for Sunday should the 24th be effected with bad weather. So why propose it, be aware of a possible weather condition months before and go back on your word?
If i'm not mistaken i also believe the organizers are the owners of the stage. So the responsibility should be more on them for not having an adequate stage to cater for wind conditions to ensure optimum sound qualities besides ensuring stage position on site.
I'm very disappointed in the way this was handled for 3 reasons :
1. the original line up with Baglioni was the main reason i had bought the tickets together with 10 people but we decided to still go ahead to support Calleja.
2. The organizers did not send us any information whatsoever.
3. We've heard that no refund will be given. This is ridiculous as we are not coming due to a farmhouse booked in Gozo next week together with 4 other couples who were all attending.
I've been to opera concerts abroad with wind conditions and we never had any problems.

I find it amusing that certain types automatically assume that any opposition to something proposed by the goverment is motivated by partisan feelings.
I take it as a strong indication that their own support (as we say in Maltese, kulħadd ikejjel b'xibru) is also motivated by partisan feelings.
I have no doubt that a large part of the approx 10 to 15% of the population that supports the Piano proposals do so purely because it was proposed by THEIR government and they do not want to be seen opposing it.

@JJ Borg just as much as your beloved Government has annoyed us all with sagas like the White Rocks BWSC, Valletta's planned Gap Toothed Entance, Piano's Roofless Theatre and again Piano's Punch and Judy Clownish Parliament on Stilts. Not to mention exhorbitant energy bills and so on and so forth. But maybe all the blue goblins for whom whatever the Government does is right have a hidden sado masochistic which is expressed in their contributions (not blogs by the way).

Cancelling the concert was a bad idea and a rush decision. The winds have already died down to an acceptable level for the concert to have gone ahead. I am sure that the organizers are regretting their decision which has disrupted the plans of many. Concerts of this level should not be cancelled unless there are very strong reasons. How many times have we seen large crowds in Hyde Park listening to Pavarotti and the three tenors under umbrellas?

I just hponed the indicated telephone number to get a refund since I absolutely cannot make it on the new date. Guess what? Only if you have proof of travel you MIGHT get a refund! what utter larceny this is! What if you have a wedding, an important event, work or anything that you cannot miss? Is this violation of our rights? Upon calling you are told, by an answering machine that you should read your rights on the back of the tickets! But you get your tickets AFTER you have parted with your cash (and cash it has to be since credit/debit card payments are not allowed) and not before! It is really a case where customer rights are trodden upon by these people who hide behind an anonymous organisation. Never again.

We make a big deal out of nothing… Open air venue is a risk to natural elements, so taking into account the wind of today it was a right decision to cancel the concert and reschedule. In the past to see such concerts we had to travel abroad now over the last few years we get to see concerts locally without any additional expenses to travel. Even if we had the old theatre built would not have been possible to accommodate all public which would be watching Calleja’s concert on Thursday. So cheer up people and alter your arrangements to see Calleja’s concert on Thursday 29th..

Ah ... but this is just a sample. Is it not ironic that now for us to see Joseph Callejja performing a full opera we have to go abroad!

How do you know that you wouldn't be able to accomodate everyone in a newly rebuilt theatre? Are you a perit? Expert evidence has indicated that it can be done. Please refrain from inanity if you are not 100% sure of what you're saying.

Imagine how much nonsense we'd save whenever it would rain, or be too hot - that ought to keep them sedated for at least 2/3 of the year.

Ghalkemm ftit rih zgur li ma kienx ser itellef mill-hoss tal-muzika tal-kuncert. Tal-misthija. Jien hallast ghall biljett biex nara lill Claudio Baglioni u ftit wara qalulna li dan mhux gej u minflok gej persuna ohra li qatt ma smajt bih u issa minflokk fil-gurnata li jien ippjanajt u stajt nattendi igifieri is-Sibt issa ser isir il-Hamis gurnata li jien inkun xoghol. dan mhux sew.

Dear Mr.Cutajar,
Because you never heard of Riccardo Cocciante, does it mean that he's not a famous artist? haven,t you ever heard of the musicals Notre Dame de Paris and Romeo and Juliet? You must be a music expert.

nies li ma jifmux zgur jghidu li mux se jaffetwa imma dawn huma nies li jifmu fdin l-settur u jafu li l-rih jamel differenza fil-hoss ukoll jista jinholoq periklu kemm l-kantatni,l-nies li se jattendu u t-tfal li se jkantaw. Regward Claudio Baglioni seta nqalalu xa haga li HADD(qas hu) kin jaf li se jigri dak n-nhar tal-kuncert.

Tipprovawx tiehdu ir-ragun u t-tort lill min hallas biex jara kuncert. Jekk jien hallast ghall ornament tad-deheb taghtiniex wiehed tal-kartun. Jien xtrajt biljett ghax xtaqt nara lill Baglioni jkanta u l-gurnata li kien ser isir il-kuncert kienet tajba ghalijja. Int min int li issa tghidli li jien ma nifhimx fil-muzika u li t-temp kien tant hazin li ma setax isir il-kuncert? Dan il-kuncert seta sar taht xi tinda fejn ir-rih ma kienx ser jaffetwa f'xi lokalita ohra u fl-istess gurnata. Dak kien il-ftehim u dak li kien reklamat. Imma milli jidher l-ewwel il-flus u wara jaghtuna dak li jridu.
