Air Malta to start Linate service
Air Malta is to launch a direct service to Milan's Linate airport in its winter schedule, while maintaining its service to the other Milan airport, Malpensa.
The airline will fly to Linate on Saturdays (dep Malta 8.55 a.m. and departure Linate at 11 a.m.) and on Sundays (dep Malta 2.30 p.m. and departure Linate 6.25 p.m.).
Passenger flows from the Northern Italian city have been increasing, as has been airline capacity. Links between Malta and Milan are operated by Air Malta, Alitalia and Easyjet.

It's good to see Air Malta improving its service further however as a Maltese living in Milan and willing to come to Malta every weekend, I feel it makes little sense to introduce this flight when Air Malta already operates a flight Malta-Malpensa on Salturday 8.25am dep Malpensa 11.00am and a flight Malta-Malpensa on Sunday early afternoon. This is simply duplication of the existing service which is short from comfortable as it only allows those coming over less than 24hrs on the island.
May I suggest a late Friday evening flight from Linate which would make it more worthwhile for Maltese willing to spend the weekend with their family and Italian's willing to come to Malta for a weekend break. Just a suggestion!

Slots are not given by airports but negotiated with the airports.
And then this is EU competition issue.............
Or it's a monopoly???

Yes, it is a monopoly - because there is only one airport at any give place on this earth!

I believe that currently Alitalia only flies to Rome. KM and EZY only fly to Milan if not mistaken.

Serie A matches finish at 16.45............
Is 18.25 a good departure time?????
I wonder who makes such marketing gaffes!!!!!!

maybe because, airline slots are given by airports, due to space available
airlines request, but if it is airports that decide... peace and health wishes

Linate Airport is a well protected fortress of Alitalia and very few non Italian airlines have managed to obtain slots in this city airport. Even Lufthansa Italia is struggling to get slots at this airport and to date is only operating from Malpensa Airport. This is a big achievement for Air Malta to get these slots at this airport. Unfortunately slots are determined by the airports and not by the airlines especially for in demand airports.
