Air Malta has signed a codeshare agreement with Austrian Airlines.

The agreement would see Austrian Airlines using its codes on Air Malta-operated flights between Malta and Vienna and on connecting flights it operated to and from Budapest, Gothenburg, Helsinki and Sofia, the Maltese carrier said. Other routes may be added in future. Both airlines' flight schedules have been harmonised to "connect perfectly with each other at Vienna Airport".

Air Malta chief commercial officer Brock Friesen said: "We are pleased that with this partnership we are offering access to a strong route network and growing range of destinations in northern and eastern Europe."
