Malta's U-16 teams are putting the finishing touches to their preparations for this year's FIBA Europe European Championships (Division C), starting in Andorra tomorrow.
In the men's competition, Malta were drawn in Group B together with Cyprus, Gibraltar and San Marino. Andorra, Scotland, Monaco and Wales are in Group A.
Malta will open their group commitments with a match against Gibraltar on Monday.
National coach Kristin Baldacchino has named the following squad for the Euro Championships: Nikola Andrejevic, Mathias Attard Montalto, Robert Bonnici, Jean Paul Borg, Stefan Cappello, Julian Christopher Cordina, Christian Doublet, Michael Aaron Falzon, Matthew Farrugia and Miguel Gauci Caruana Montalto.
Six nations will be vying for the women's title.
Malta are in Group A along with Monaco and Scotland. Group B is made up of Andorra, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
The Maltese girls face Monaco in their opening game on Tuesday.
National coach Peter Farrugia has called up the following players: Maria Bonett, Stephanie Davies, Martina De Martino, Paula Ellul, Andrea Mifsud, Chantelle Mifsud, Francesca Mifsud, Gabriella Mifsud, Julia Xerri and Justine Xuereb.
The Maltese contingent will be headed by Frank Camilleri and Colin Schembri, secretary general and vice-president of the Malta Basketball Association, respectively.
