The Helen O’Grady Academy has recently received an encouraging letter from actress Elizabeth Hurley saying that if it were not for evening classes in developmental drama, she would never have got to where she is today.
During a recent demonstration held at Kalkara Primary School, academy principal Alan Montanaro explained that the high energy lessons coax children out of their shells and strive to eradicate the often crippling fear of making a mistake.
“Our curriculum has been developed over the past 28 years and, because the lessons are language based, the children are learning English through usage in a fun-filled environment”, he said.
Mr Montanaro thanked the Vodafone Malta Foundation for its support of these classes, and also thanked Mrs Miriam Mallia, head of St Margaret’s College Kalkara Primary who said it was amazing how children who had language difficulties not only managed to overcome them by speaking clearly, but also integrated with their peers, held their head high as equals, and shared weaknesses which in turn became strengths, to the benefit of all.
The academy has already received similar letters from Sir Alex Fergusson of Manchester United, and Jans Fidel, Commissioner of Education in Brussels
