The tender for the inter-connector between Malta and Sicily has been cancelled, Enemalta said in a statement.

It said the tender was cancelled because the sole bidder was found to be administratively non compliant with the tender’s conditions.

Enemalta said that due to the urgency of the project, including the eligibility for European funding, and its national importance, the corporation requested the Contracts Department to adopt a negotiated procedure with the four short-listed economic operators.

The request was approved.

Enemalta said the tender conditions will be reviewed after consultation with these economic operators, before moving into the final phase of the process where bidders will be asked to submit a best and final offer.
