Qormi are keen to sign a young Nigerian striker as they intensify their drive to recruit four new foreign players.

Abubakar Bello-Osagie has already had talks with Qormi officials during a short visit to Malta earlier this month. It is believed that discussions were very positive and Qormi are hopeful of tying up a deal for the 21-year-old.

Bello-Osagie has spent most of his career in South America where he was on the books of Vasco da Gama, Internacional and Caixas. He also had a short stint with the B team of Argentine club River Plate.

Qormi have made the signing of two foreign strikers one of their top priorities following the departure of Brazilian forward Camilo, the Premier League’s top scorer last season, and Nigerian Alfred Effiong.

Camilo has opted to pursue his career with South Korean club Gyeongnam FC while Effiong has reportedly joined Marsaxlokk.

The club’s first significant move this summer was to install Stephen Azzopardi as coach.

In the transfer market, Qormi have already been involved in the biggest deal of the summer so far.

They have completed the signings of Jonathan Bondin and Stefan Giglio from Valletta in exchange for defender Ramon.

Winger Cleaven Frendo has also joined Qormi on a season-long loan as part of the agreement for Ramon’s transfer to the Citizens.

Luke Sciberras, who came up through the youth ranks of Birkirkara, has also pledged his future to Qormi.

Presently, two Polish players are having a trial with Qormi who started their pre-season training earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Tarxien Rainbows are also looking to bring in three new foreigners. Of the Brazilian trio they had last season, Tarxien have only retained defender Everton as striker Ribeiro returned to Ukraine and playmaker Denni joined Valletta with Justin Grioli moving in the opposite direction.

The Rainbows have also struck a deal with Marsaxlokk for Carlo Mamo.

The experienced left-back started his career with Tarxien before enjoying spells with Birkirkara, Sliema Wanderers and Marsaxlokk.
