Update 2: Photographer dies after fall from cliff into the sea

Updated Friday 7.15 a.m.

Mario Agius, a 57-year-old photographer from Sliema, has died after he fell off a cliff into the sea while taking pictures of a wedding couple near Wied Iz-Zurrieq.

The incident happened at about 7.30 p.m.

Sources said he was taking pictures of the couple, and at one time even warned them not to go near the edge, when he suddenly slipped and fell a height of almost three storeys.

The groom dived to his assistance and the man was rescued and pulled onto a pleasure boat which happened to be close by.

He was taken to shore and rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

His injuries were found to be life threatening and he passed away during the night.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri-Herrera is holding an inquiry.

Hello Joe, Thankyou for your kind thoughts I was born in 1955 My family immigrated to Australia in 1964, so you may be thinking of another Leslie Gladwish. I have a cousin with the same name he is older than me. Perhaps the Leslie Gladwish you knew was him

Thanks for replying so quickly Sur Gladwish. I looked up in Facebook and you are younger than Leslie my ex-neighbour. If he is a cousin and you're in touch, you could forward him my e.mail. Of course you don't have to and nor does 'the real' Leslie Gladwish. It's that there it was, a little snippet of my distant childhood, staring me in the fact.
Thanks again. Take care.

Unfortunately I don't have an email address for the other "Leslie Gladwish" I know he doesn't use a computer very much. I did see him last year when I was in Malta on holiday. We contacted him by telephone. My sister just returned from a holiday in Malta last week and she used the same telephone number but could not contact him. So we are not quite sure where he is at the moment!! Sorry

THE FIANCE' TRIED ALL HIS BEST.

I happened to be there a few minutes after the accident. From reliable sources we got to know that the photoshoot had not yet even started and all were still walking towards the destination to start taking photos. The fiance' proved to be a great hero since he risked his own life and dived in to try and save his life. People could see that whilst the boat was carrying Mario Agius to shore, the fiance' struggled very hard to try and save the photographer.

I decided to write this after reading the following comment by Mr.Carmel Pule':
"Advice to wedding couples, moderated on where you take your wedding photographs. No photograph is worth a life!"

I wish to praise the guy's immediate actions since not everyone would have acted the same, having a wedding nearby. I wish to send all my condolences the Family Agius since from what I have read in these comments he seemed to be a very great person. R.I.P. Mario and you and your family will be in our prayers.

Mario Agius, a photographer. I would have loved to have known this man. It seems very unfair for life to be cut short while doing what he did with such passion. Mario's memory will live in the hundreds of wedding photographs scattered in homes all over Malta. RIP.
@ Leslie Gladwish. I am Joe. If you lived in the house in front of the nuns' school in Hamrun (tal-Francizi), then I was your neighbour upstairs (just after the war and up to late 40s). We grew up in the same neighbourhood. It would be nice if you said hello.
