After Xlendi, restaurants complain about Marsalforn construction disruption

The Gozo Tourism Association complained today that construction work is taking place in the only parking place available in Marsalforn.

"This ill-timed construction of the parking area retaining wall is causing a lot of inconveniences to the numerous self-catering apartments around the area. Furthermore such works are limiting parking, adding more pressure on parking facilities in this highly frequented resort on Gozo," the GTA said.

It pointed out that this inconvenience followed the difficulties caused by the works on the Xlendi road, which had impacted on restaurants and tourist establishments in Xlendi.

"It is the Association’s belief that government, both central and local, should be more sensitive to the concerns of the Gozitan tourism operators whose sustainability depends totally on the business activity generated during the short summer season," the GTA said.

I full agree with Charles and all. And life goes on, when is anyone going to learn, that work can be carried out in evening trough the night, and during the day there could be reasonable access were possible, this way more work is generated in the cool and create less hassle in the light of the day. There are more commuters about in the day time than in the evening, so there will be less people irritated. With our problems why not have a go and try it on a test road project. When the road in Mount Mghatab was tramacked I did not see anyone writing in about any traffic harassment or loss of trade.

Come on guys, I am not a Gozo fan but as happened in Marsaxlokk, why construction works have to be done in the high season? At least admit that this is really unprofessional and detrimental to business and tourism.

@Joe E Galea,
It's not. I have not been on holiday abroad a million times in my life, however every time I am there are works going on. The main difference is that they cover the work professionally, and very little dust spreads, and also they can work in the shade so there is no stopping for some 3-4hrs to wait for the temperatures to cool down

@ U.D'Amico

Mr D'Amico, have you ever been in Marsalforn or Xlendi at Christmas time? At that time a cemetry has more night-life than Marsalforn or Xlendi. Moreover, more than half the restaurants are closed. Furthermore Marsalforn and Xlendi are full of summer residents, whom when school starts go back to their houses, mainly in Rabat and Qala! This project should have been done before summer time because this will result in a difficulty for the tourisim industry in Marsalforn and Xlendi
