Free-scoring Chelsea eclipse 100+ goal-mark in Premier

Chelsea secured the Premier League championship crown in style last May as they went goal berserk, scoring a total of 103 throughout the campaign.

This was indeed an amazing tally from the London Blues who left their fans, particularly those attending matches at Stamford Bridge, on the edge of their seats with their brand of attacking football.

Chelsea, who went on to claim a league and cup double, headed the goal charts in the top flight for the first time since 1988-89 (average 2.09). Their amazing average of 2.71 goal(s) per league game is a record for this division.

Their leading scorers in the league were Didier Drogba, 29 goals, Frank Lampard, 22, Florent Malouda, 12, and Nicolas Anelka, 11.

In the top flight, the total of 1,053 goals meant an increase of 111 on the previous campaign.

In the remaining divisions, the Championship and League Two also recorded an addition. The total goals aggregate of 5,283 is 201 goals more than the preceding season.

More than half the clubs in the Premiership showed an increase on their former total as follows: Arsenal, Bolton, Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Ham and Wigan. The biggest rise came from Chelsea – 35 goals.
