Birkirkara bow out of Champions League
Žilina 3-0 Birkirkara
Aggregate: 3-1
Birkirkara bowed out of the Champions League in the second qualifying round today when they were defeated 3-0 by Slovakian side MSK Zilina.
Birkirkara had defeated Zilina 1-0 in the home match thanks to an early Nikola Vukanac goal but the Maltese champions were unable to build on their advantage today.
Piaček opened the score this evening for Zilina in the 20th minute from a free kick action. Lietava scored the second in the 77th minute from a corner and Oravec scored the third in the second minute of stoppage time.
Zilina now face Bulgaria's Litex Lovech.

The sense of patriotism in this country never ceases to amaze me! Well done Birkirkara, sadly there still are some Maltese people who live with the conquered or colonised mentality, who are Maltese because they happened to have a passport, they always ridicule any event, accomplishment, movement of any Maltese team / person. Well done Birkirkara, well done Maltese sports.

I am a B'Kara fan and YES I am proud of what B'Kara achieved even if they lost. They are Maltese and we should support any Maltese that makes an affort to achieve something away from this rock.
BTW .... Best of luck to Valletta for tonight .... yes they are B'Kara's "enemies" but they are Maltese so they will have my support tonight.

Sorry do disturb, do you need a wipe Mr.Camilleri? By the way, mind you when walking down the streets because Birkirkara Ultras (BU97) might come out and scare you... just like what happened last May when BIRKIRKARA were crowned champions.
FORZA BIRKIRKARA, KBURIN BIKOM MIN DEJJEM U GHAL DEJJEM.
PS: Instead of pretending to be someone you're not behind thescreen, why not try to be the right hand side of your local football team. And which club do you side with? If it's a foreign club, dont mention it. Scardy cat!

Here we are; the Birkirkara Fc supporters!
Our players & coaching staff made us proud. We are the only Maltese team to win two successive games in a European competition.
@ j.camilleri. you should be ashamed for your comments. Go and put an Italian / English flag on your balcony.

@joe camilleri and sean grima come on all of you that sound that you are not happy that a maltese
team tries to win against better opposision. We know that we can go so far even our national
team but come on be happy with what we've got. I suppose you would be one of those waving
every other nation's flag and rubishing ours.Good on you B'kara for getting this far and good
luck Valletta tonight.

Let's look on the positive side guys.
B'kara were two down by the 77th minute. At that stage the aggregate was 2-1 in favour of the Slovakian side. B'kara threw all their men in the attack; the goal in their favour didn't come. Had luck been on B'Kara's side and the team managed to score a goal by the end of the game without conceding that 3rd goal, a 2-2 aggregate would have meant that B'Kara would qualify on the away goal rule.
I think that this was a positive run by B'Kara and their efforts should be commended.
By the way, I am not a B'Kara fan. I just would like to give credit where credit is due.

bil-kemm ma kienx hawn min haseb li b'kara se jiehdu c-champions league! anyway, prosit to b'kara for at least winning 2 matches, though they only made it through the first round on the basis of a 'table' win

Well I hope to read from all the B'kara fans who wrote in when B'kara won the first leg 1-0. They had started talking about their pride in their team for having won the game. When I pointed out that in a 2 leg tie, the first game is in effect half-time, I was accused of all sorts of things. The bottom line is, whether we like to believe it or not, that we are mediocre and always will be in footballing terms.
