Two Americans to be charged with cocaine trafficking
Two Americans are expected to be arraigned tomorrow charged with association, importation and trafficking of cocaine.
The Americans, who arrived in Malta yesterday on a direct flight from Amsterdam, were caught following a joint operation between the police and the Customs Department.
The police said that a 22-year-old American was stopped on his arrival and a medical examination established he was carrying cocaine capsules in his stomach.
Further investigations established that another American, aged 20, was also carrying cocaine in his stomach. He was arrested at a hotel in Sliema.
Around a kilogramme of the drug was found.
Duty magistrate Anthony Micallef Trigona is holding an inquiry.

All one has to do is read what is happening in Colombia, and especially in Mexico, to understand why these people should be considered as merchants of death.

PLEASE GOOGLE THE VIENNA DECLARATION AND LOOK AT ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO DEAL WITH ALL DRUGS, INCLUDING THE DRUG THAT KILLS MILLIONS AROUND THE WORLD EVERY YEAR - ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO
THE ONLY REASON THERE ARE DRUGS IN MALTA IS BECAUSE THERE IS A DEMAND FOR DRUGS IN MALTA
IT IS A SHAME THAT SUCH AN IMPORTANT SUBJECT AS DRUG ADDICTION IS SIMPLIFIED BY THE SIMPLE PEOPLE WHO HAVE CHOSEN TO COMMENT ON THIS BLOG

Whilst i dont advocate drug use, some of the comments here show how nieve and ill - informed swaths of Maltese really are. Very rarely does cocaine kill anyone - so calling them death merchants is rather juvenile and shows how unread certain people are on the drugs issue. Many dont even realize that the two most deadly drugs known to man are alcohol and tobbaco, in fact many Maltese dont even realize that alcohol and tobacco are drugs!
Secondly, you would not get the death penalty for a kilo of any drug in the USA.
Please do some research before you post Bloggers!

Yes Mr Smith, drugs kill. One thing leads to another, drug addicts steal, rob and do anything to get their fix, so yes, these two death merchants should be made an example of to send the message home that this is not tolerable in Malta.

I completely agree that alcohol and tobacco (and prescribed pills) are also drugs, and unfortunately many do not think of them as such. However cocaine does kill. Maybe not in in the same obvious way like a heroin overdose however it is responsible for a large number of heart attacks. That apart from the severe paranoia that can (and does) lead to violence, murder or suicide.

We might be naive,m and maybe simpler than you lot, however we do realize that these so called recreational drugs can cause havoc within our families. So thanks but no thanks to these
so called merchants of misery.
Just keep them to yourselves, and enjoy.

Caught with a kilo in their country means electric chair.
One hope these two don't find any MALTESE Samaritan, who for a handfull of
dollars appear to their defence and released on suspended jail term.
A jail term of 10 years plus a hefty fine similar to the states should apply

These death merchants should be given a message that dealing in death is not allowed in Malta.

These Yanks and others from europe and north Africa take us maltese for idiots or naive, we are a nation in our right and its up to our government to double check whom they let in our little island, its densly populated now as it is and unemployment in Gozo mainly is at the highest, why did these Yanks walked in and try and poison our children with their rubbish they usually have in their country. Something is definitly not coprrect and t5e customs should jump on them and make an example out these Yanks as i am afriad things will just go astray for us Maltese citizens. Every time i read the news and i am not being funny or anything, but 9 out of ten criminals are BL**DY Foreigners. sorry but its a fact.

Quite right especially some of the English or whatever they originate from, stick their nationl flag on their roof top to show us Maltese that they are \British or English or Germans whatever. I like to see a BIG MALTESE flag as this is Malta and my country. Viva Malta Viva Gozo * Don Ghawdex.
