Mepa audit officer's term extended

The term of Mepa audit officer Joe Falzon, which came to an end this week, has been extended by three months until the new law comes into effect.

Mr Falzon has accepted to continue in his post.

Under the new law, the post of Mepa auditor will be moved to the Ombudsman’s office.

Mr Falzon has been critical of the authority in several instances and said in its annual report for last year that if the negative attitude at the authority continued, the proposed reform might as well consider abolishing the post of audit officer as it would be irrelevant.
