I refer to the article Police With No Means To Check Tinted Glass (July 13).
The article states that "The Motor Vehicle Regulations prohibit tinted windscreens and tinted front windows altogether ..." This is incorrect. The Motor Vehicle Regulations stipulate that windscreens are to allow at least 75 per cent of light through whereas front side windows are to allow at least 70 per cent of light to pass through.
It appears that the term "tinted windows" means different things to different people. Some authors understand tinted windows to mean darkened windows, which are more heavily tinted than the standard tint applied to most, if not all, car windows in production today. Furthermore, one needs to distinguish between "darkened" front and rear side windows.
