Zaragoza: Real Zaragoza have confirmed the signing of former Argentina goalkeeper Leo Franco from Galatasaray. Franco, who has played more than 300 Primera Liga matches in spells at Mallorca, Merida and Atletico Madrid, is back in Spain to make Zaragoza his fourth club in the country.

Trezeguet: David Trezeguet is likely to see out the last year of his contract at Juventus. "The club are counting on him," Antonio Caliendo, Trezeguet's agent, said. The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Turin given that he could leave on a Bosman next summer.

Iraqi Raid: Soldiers raided the Iraqi Football Association offices yesterday, less than a week before IFA elections to be overseen by world football's governing body FIFA, an IFA official said. Around 20 soldiers arrived at the head offices in Baghdad with an arrest warrant on corruption charges for association head Hussein Said and three other senior IFA officials. Later on the federation issued a statement saying that the domestic championship was suspended indefinitely.

Dalmat: Sochaux have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Rennes for the transfer of midfielder Stephane Dalmat. Dalmat, who has made 91 appearances for Sochaux since signing on a free transfer from Bordeaux in 2007, will sign a two-year contract with Les Rouges et Noirs after a medical today.

Tennis: Spain's Nicolas Almagro came through a tough three-setter to beat top seed and defending champion Robin Soderling in the final of the claycourt ATP Swedish Open yesterday. The 24-year-old won 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in just under two hours. It was his sixth ATP title and his first of 2010. In Stuttgart, Spain's world number 30 Albert Montanes secured his second ATP title of the season when French opponent Gael Monfils was forced to retire injured from the final. Montanes had been leading 6-2, 1-2 when third-seeded Monfils called a halt suffering from a right ankle injury.

Athletics: American world 400 metres champion Sanya Richards-Ross announced yesterday that she is bringing her season to a premature end to recover from a series of injuries. "I have been plagued with flares from my Behcet's disease, struggled with injuries, and have had unfortunate mishaps that have resulted in me having to take the remainder of the season off to recover," Richards-Ross told the IAAF website.

Swimming: Britain's Keri-Anne Payne had to settle for seventh place in the 10-kilometre race at the World Open Water Swimming Championships in Roberval, Canada. The 22-year-old was a silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics and then claimed gold last year in Rome at the World Aquatics Championships. But she was squeezed out of the podium placings yesterday in a race which was won by Italian Martina Grimaldi. Another Italian, Giorgia Consiglio, took second place, with China's Yanqiao Fang in third.

Basketball: Lithuanian centre Zydrunas Ilgauskas has inked a free-agent contract with the Miami Heat, and will now play for a team other than the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time in his career. Ilgauskas agreed in principle to a deal on Tuesday, then had to wait for Miami to complete other pending moves before completing the switch on Saturday. He's the ninth player to sign with Miami for the coming season, joining his former Cleveland team-mate LeBron James.

Hockey: Argentina won their third successive Champions Trophy (women), and fourth in all, with a 4-2 defeat of the Netherlands yesterday. Argentina's goals came from three drag-flicks by Noel Barrionuevo and a field goal by Carla Rebecchi. On Saturday, Olympic champions Germany came back from two goals down to defeat Britain 3-2 in extra-time and clinch the Four Nations title.
